Our Past

Founded in 1913,the Society is the oldest continuously operating society in the town. It traces its roots to the mid 19th century Lynn Conversazione from around 1847.

Welwick House

Originally based at Welwick House , the Society was established to encourage and pursue the Arts and Sciences. In the 1980s Society members produced the first Guide Book of King’s Lynn and celebrated 70 years of the Society with a tea party.

Topics covered over the years

Topics covered over the years are wide ranging from Antarctic Exploration, the Norwich School of Painters to Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. In 2025 we welcomed Lord Martin Rees, the Astronomer Royal, to a packed meeting.

Recently the Society has archived its documents from the last 112 years at Stories of Lynn to safeguard its legacy for future generations.
